faster turn around and give our customers competitive
advantage. Steelrode has consistently been one of the
fastest growing flat steel businesses in Africa. We are
passionate about our business and continue to invest in
cutting edge technology and the best human resources to give
us maximum advantage in the steel industry. We are making
inroads into the Sub Saharan steel market and are market
leaders in new generation steels that are being developed
and produced globally. We are currently processing 10 000
tons monthly, and have enormous capacity to increase this
business in the future.
Steelrode has managed to grow its market share in the
automotive industry, which has traditionally been a tough
industry to penetrate. We are ISO 9001:2000 certified and
have recently introduced an 800 ton online press to process
steel coil straight into automotive components.
We have
recently formed a new company Drumrode (Pty) Ltd that has a
51 % BE ownership. We have developed sound business
relationships within the packaging industry, in particular
Peninsular Drums, in the Western Cape who supply steel drums
and fittings for the fruit and automotive industries. Our
sister company Robmeg Steel is the countries second largest
steel door and window manufacture. Robmeg Steel is a major
supplier to the building industry, servicing many building
DIY outlets, and is one of the major suppliers to the
government RDP housing program. Steelrode is currently
negotiating with Swedish steel maker SSAB, who are quality
producers of a range of steel products that include hard
wearing abrasion resistant steel and level steel coils.
Steelrode will be the only approved service centre in Africa
capable of meeting their stringent flatness specifications.
Steelrode has a wonderful and committed team of “steel
professionals” that go the extra mile to provide customers
with a service level that is difficult to match. Steelrode
employs 100 factory staff and 26 administrative staff.
Steelrode has invested in the township TV concept as part of
our social upliftment program; we are assisting in the
upgrade of 29 parks in the township areas of Gauteng;
bringing edutainment to the young kids of South Africa via
satellite television. Although still a very new concept, it
has been positively received.
